Reports on Research Surveys by Year

February 10 - 16, 2015

The 2nd Survey of Maps and Other Materials in the Collections of the Leiden University Libraries and SieboldHuis (Leiden, The Netherlands)

Conducted by National Museum of Japanese History (Aoyama, "Leiden Team B (shini-e, maps, fashion)")

Locations Surveyed: Leiden University Library and East Asian Library, Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde (National Museum of Ethnology), SieboldHuis (all in Leiden, The Netherlands)

Local Contacts: Matthi Forrer (Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde), Kuniko Forrer (SieboldHuis)

Participants: Hiro'o Aoyama, Masahiro Mikawa (all staff of NMJH)

Mainly, this was a preliminary survey of maps contained in the "Catalog of the Philipp Franz von Siebold Collection and Hague Royal Museum Collection of Japanese Books and Manuscripts," a work composed by Seibold (with a commentary by Hoffman), and together with previous research, completes our survey of materials related to Seibold held in the Leiden University Library.  Through this research, in addition to being able to examine materials nearly unknown in Japan, we were able to discover new materials related to Seibold that had not yet been examined.
