Purpose	When the group, within the context of its research, looked at the various facets of human life—including the handing down of knowledge and techniques and the development of skills—the theme of "things essential to human activities" arose. The study undertook comprehensive research on the knowledge, techniques, and skills that have accumulated among people living in the Japanese Archipelago, while centering on contemporary folklore.
