Rekihaku International Research Meetings 2007

We will conduct a workshop at Pusan National University in South Korea, to examine further the focal points of the international workshop entitled "Coordinating Views of Time during the Kofun Period, in Japan and South Korea" held in 2006. During this workshop, we will coordinate discrepancies in the results of Japanese and South Korean researchers in terms of their views of time.

This workshop is being held as a result of Rekihaku's international academic exchange agreement with the National Folk Museum of South Korea. Since 2004, one workshop has been held annually at each of the National Folk Museum of South Korea and Rekihaku; during each, we have discussed the history and culture of Japan and South Korea and achieved certain results. We are planning to conduct the workshop in the same manner in 2007 as well.

This research workshop will compare and analyze cases of memory expression (i.e., narrative, document, and monument) involving war experiences in Japan, the U.S., and in certain European countries, as well as specific acts of "handing down" these memories to the next generation. Through these efforts, we will analyze the characteristics of those societies, in terms of how they memorize and represent their respective war experiences.
