A Brief Introduction to the Museum's Holdings

As an inter-university research institute, the National Museum of Japanese History aims to clarify Japanese history and culture based on actual proof by systematically collecting a wide range of materials on history, archaeology, folklore, and other related fields. The collected materials include not only original materials but also various types of materials such as replicas, copies, restoration models based on historical materials, etc. The Museum currently has about 230,000 materials which are widely used as common property of the academic world through information delivery by collaborative research, databases, catalogues, etc. not to mention research activities and exhibitions in the Museum.
